Follow along the next few weeks as we share information about the anti-LGBTQ+ extremists elected to local seats last month. First up: Chad Williams in Huntington Beach.
Chad, a youth pastor at Calvary Chapel Huntington Harbor and a professional public speaker, has a long evidence list of his harmful sentiments towards the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized people in Orange County. We will be watching his time on the council very closely, and seeking to provide a challenge to any agenda items rooted in bigotry and xenophobia that he may choose to present or vote for.
Huntington Beach had the largest voter turn out in the city's history by far this November. More people than ever before voted, including voters who are registered as Democrats. Six of the eight candidates surpassed vote-getting records. This city has become highly engaged, with tens of thousands of people who oppose ANTI-LGBTQ rhetoric - even if they didn't win.
Follow along as we analyze the track records of other elected officials in Orange County over the next month.

Our team has been taking the time to rest and rebuild for what comes next. It can often feel like taking the time to care for yourself is sacrificing the time you have to do the work today, but we are all only human - and we will need breaks in order to move forward productively in the long run.
How are you taking care of yourself? Feel free to comment with the ways you've been managing your rest and self-care.

We'll be back starting Monday, December 2nd, with information about the local election results and the ways we're moving forward together with the rest of the community.
Take care - and if you'd like to support us on this Small Business Saturday, feel free to check out our merch store at patpshop.com!

This Trans Day of Remembrance is a hard one. Many of us feel absolutely overwhelmed by the scale of the fight ahead of us, and are dragged down by fear for ourselves, our neighbors, our loved ones.
Over 350 trans and gender-diverse people have been killed over the last year. We honor their memory by holding space for each other, by providing a place of comfort and safety, and by never giving up the fight for a better future.
They deserved that better future, and we will never stop fighting for it.

We're in the Muppets fever dream phase of emotional processing, how about you?
It's been a pretty wild week for both national and local politics. A lot of us are feeling completely overwhelmed by the way anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric performed during the election on Tuesday.
Our work may seem much harder now than it did last week, it's true. But marginalized people in America have been fighting uphill battles for our own safety, dignity, and equity for hundreds of years, and we're not going to stop doing that now.
In that vein, we will be holding a Zoom Town Hall on the Future of Queer Political Organizing in Orange County. This event will be held over Zoom at 6:30pm on Thursday, November 21st, and we'll be discussing, as a community, how we move forward from here.
RSVP for your Zoom invite link either at the QR code in the graphic, or at bit.ly/queer-political-organizing.

The last few months have been an incredible feat of effort from over 30 volunteers who have helped Pride at the Pier compile research on local candidates, develop a platform in which to share that information, and to distribute that information to tens of thousands of Orange County voters.
Pride at the Pier would not have been able to do this without the incredible team of volunteers that made up this effort. Thank you.
We will continue to be here. There's going to be a lot of work to do in the coming months and years to build a better future for Orange County's LGBTQ+ community. Our leadership team is building a path forward in unprecedented times (yes, we're as tired of saying that phrase as you are of hearing it) and our volunteers will continue to the backbone of the work we do.
For now, we appreciate the rest from a long and arduous election season. There will be work to do when we come up for air.

Millions of people are waking up this morning to what seems almost unfathomable. LGBTQ+ people, and other marginalized communities, are feeling shock, isolation, grief, horror, and above all, fear.
All of these things are real.
What many of us are also feeling is an instinct that the work we do doesn't matter. And that feeling is a lie.
The work does matter. We do make a difference. We are not alone. And we are not going away.
Pride at the Pier will continue to stand for LGBTQ+ safety, dignity, and equity in Orange County, as the local election results continue to be counted, and as the nation at large changes. We are not going away. We will be right here, no matter what happens, defending our community.

You have until 8pm on November 5th to get in line at a polling place. If you're not registered, don't let that stop you - tell the poll workers you want to register and they'll help you out. Voting is the easiest way you can make an impact in the lives of your marginalized neighbors. Don't let it pass you by.
Did you vote yet?

***As a 501c3, Pride at the Pier is allowed to endorse propositions, measures, and recalls, as long as they align with our mission and the endorsement communication is only a small percentage of the work we do.
HB Mayor Gracey VDM went on the podcast of Manuk Grigoryan, Nazi sympathizer and ANTI-LGBTQ+ extremist, on Friday night to talk about her work as a "mama bear".
During that, she made the fully untrue claim that public schools are facilitating abortions for kids as young as 8 without parental knowledge or consent. This is absolutely untrue, and likely a manipulation of an understanding of California's medical industry privacy laws that include kids 12 years and older. This has nothing to do with schools, who would be mandated reporters if, to use her example, an elementary student showed up to the office to ask for an abortion.
Madison Miner made similar claims shortly before being ousted from her Orange USD seat in a recall this March. Miner is now the chapter lead of the OC Moms for Liberty branch.
Gracey has endorsed a number of candidates for school boards in HB, notably Keith Jorgensen and David Clifford for OVSD.
This is just one of the wild things said on the podcast - comment if you'd like to hear the rest.
